August/September

Students learn the website Growing with Technology and the online activities of keyboarding, computer parts, Tommy the Time Machine, and introduction to Word Documents.  Students also learn keyboarding with Type to Learn Jr., and interactive educational activities on ABCya, Doorway Online, Dance Mat Typing, "I Do Dog Tricks," and Marcelino's Letters.  Students begin to work on Microsoft Word to create an All About Me project.

 

October/November

The 1st grade students will learn the website Code.org.  It is a free website that guides students in online activities to learn programming. 
 

December

Students learn educational websites to improve math and reading skills:  ICT Games, BrainPop, BBC Schools.

 

January/February

Students work with partners to learn the basics of PowerPoint and create a multi-media slideshow presenation on their favorite animal.  Students learn  how to add clip art, text boxes, animation, sound and slide transition.  The first graders are introduced to Google Earth and learn how to find their school, their home, their town and famous places around the world such as the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Titanic Shipwreck and The White House.

 

March/April

First graders learn spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel and work with a partner to create a take-home project.  Students learn about Internet Safety, Digital Citizenship and Cyber Netiquette by interactive quizzes, videos and games on Disney's Surf Swell Island, Bad Guy Patrol, AT&T Safety Game and Webonauts.  Certificates are earned upon completion of the activities.

 

April/May

Students are learning all about Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets and how to add text and how to compare data.

 

May/June

Students learn how to create a Mother's Day card in Microsoft Publisher, a Name Acrostic in Microsoft Word and a Father's Day project using word clouds at Tagxedo.com.  Students continue to improve their keyboarding skills, learning additional iPad apps and  learning more coding/programming websites such as Tynker and Scratch.com.
