August/September
Kindergarten students begin the year learning how to navigate the Internet by understanding the web browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome.  Students learn Windows operating system to access the Tech Lab Folder on the Bookmarks Bar and recognize the icons for websites . They  are introduced to language arts and math interactive online activities.  Students are also introduced to using iPads and many learning apps on the Apple MacIntosh operating system.  These are the first three websites the Kindergarten students learn to do  educational activities.  Click the picture to go to the website!

 

October/November
Kindergarten students learn new system applications, Type to Learn Jr. and Kidspiration.  Type to Learn Jr. introduces students to the keyboard with fun activities to help students remember where the letters are on the keyboard. Students also learn the Shift Key to make punctuation marks and upper case letters.  Kidspiration is a concept mapping application which integrates and reinforces the language arts program of the Letter People and students find pictures that begin with the letter person they are learning in a particular week.

 

December

Students learn a fun website, "Alfie's North Pole Adventure" and Surf Swell Island.  These websites teach students how to use critical thinking skills and understand cyber safety and netiquette. 

January/February
Students learn the website, Growing with Technology, which offers various online interactive games of learning computer parts, Paint, Word, Typing, Spreadsheets and Internet Websites.  Students work in groups to create their first "Friends" spreadsheet.

March
Students are introduced to coding and programming on the website, Code.org.  They receive their own personal character or "secret picture" and the website provides step by step instruction of showing students how to begin coding with algorythoms (or set of directions) which tells the computer what to do.

 

April and May

Kindergarten students are learning Microsoft Word and learning to type a special message for their Moms.  They are also learning all about Microsoft Excel and the parts of a spreadsheet (column, row, cell, cell address) and working with a partner to create a "My Friends Spreadsheet."


June
Students learn about Microsoft Power Point and how to make a very basic multi-media slide presentation using shapes.
